Hey AED! We hope you all had an enjoyable Labor Day weekend! We've got an exciting week ahead with several events lined up, and New Member recruitment already kicking off strong! Please be sure to read through all the announcements carefully.

General Meeting Dates:

  • Our general meetings this semester will be from 7:30-8:30pm on 9/18, 10/2, 10/16, 10/30, 11/13, & 12/4! Go ahead and plan on putting those on your calendar so you can meet the GM requirement. Please email Evan or Mariele if you cannot attend one or all of these GM dates at least two weeks in advance. We will only provide GM exemptions to those with classes or exams.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Back-To-School Pickleball & Popsicles social last Friday! We had so much fun catching up with you all. :) Check out these cool pictures of some members playing pickleball! Additionally, thank you to those who stopped by Late Night! We had a fantastic time talking to potential new members!

Scholarly Events

  • AED Interest Tabling Form: Please use the spreadsheet linked to sign up for recruitment tabling! It will be on September 3rd from 11:00-3:00pm! You can receive 1 scholarship credit by signing up for two 30-minute shifts (and a maximum of one scholarship credit in total). 

Service

Upcoming Large Service Events

  • AED requires general members to attend 3 Large Service Events each semester! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu).

  • We will have an LSE this Friday (9/6) from 1:00-3:00PM at Caritas of Waco. We will be volunteering in their food pantry as their organization aims to fight poverty and food insecurity in Waco.

    • Volunteers will have to fill out this Google Form indicating that they have read the details of the waiver, so I can send our information to the coordinator before Thursday evening. HERE IS THE LINK! If you are coming, please fill out ASAP:) Lexi will provide rides to anyone who needs it!

  • Brahmi (brahmi_prayaga1@baylor.edu) is hosting an LSE at The Salvation Army on Saturday, September 14th from 9:30-11:30AM. Volunteers will be sorting donations and restocking to assist the staff.

    • Here is the LINK to sign-up if you are planning on going! Both Brahmi and Lexi are able to provide rides to anyone who needs it. 

Student Health Advisory Council is hosting a Blood Drive next week (September 9th-13th)! If you are able to donate, this will count as 1 LSE! All you have to do is send Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu) a selfie of you donating, and she will mark you off.

Weekly Service Form and Updates

  • For those who are not doing clinical service, please fill out the WEEKLY SERVICE PREFERENCE FORM ASAP! To remain active: members will need to serve 10 hours at their respective volunteer sites. Please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu) with any questions. Once everyone fills it out, the service chairs will reach out to the members in their respective service sites by the end of the week!

    • Liana has also contacted all applicants of Waco Family Medicine. If you are volunteering at WFM, you do not need to fill out the Weekly Service Signup Form. 

    • If you applied to Ascension Providence or are a returning volunteer, please email Hana_Jang1@baylor.edu. Applications for Ascension closed on September 1st, so if you are waiting to hear back please reach out to Hana. If you are volunteering with Ascension, you do not need to fill out the Weekly Service Signup Form.  

    • If you applied/are interested in Mission Waco’s Health Clinic, please email Tyler_Tuisl1@baylor.edu. If you are volunteering at Mission Waco, you do not need to fill out the Weekly Service Signup Form.

    • If you are concerned about a weekly service time commitment, car/carpool situation, or you are already involved in valuable service that you are passionate about, please reach out to Lexi at Lexi_Haviland1@baylor.edu

Dues

  • Semester Dues are $25 and must be paid by GM #3 (10/16)!

  • Dues will be raised to $35 after GM #3

  • Dues can be paid to our Venmo: @BaylorAED

    • Please do not mark your dues as a service as it charges AED

Important! We will have another recruitment event incentive this semester! For every prospective member you inform about a recruitment event, you will receive 1 raffle entry! The prospective member must list your name on the attendance sheet as we will be verifying their attendance. After our events, we will give away a Merch Credit (valued at $15 off) to one lucky winner! This is a super fun way to earn a social credit and possibly get some merch!

Important! We will also be giving away one tote bag on September 10th to a follower of the @BaylorAEDNMs account so go and follow that!

Hillis Scholars Program

The Hillis Scholars Program offers various benefits to our members including a community of high-achieving, aspiring physicians, Hillis family dinners, 1-on-1 physician mentoring, financial scholarship, and more.

If you are interested in hearing more about the program and how to be a competitive applicant this cycle, please consider attending one of our Fall 2024 interest meetings on 9/3, 9/5, and 9/9 from 7:00-8:00pm in the Earle Hall Classroom.
