  • Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) is the National Health Preprofessional Honor Society dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in preprofessional health scholarship, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary, and other health professions.

  • Any Baylor University student with an interest in the health professions and who meets the academic requirements can join AED. We welcome students from all pre-health disciplines.

  • To become a member, you need to fill out an application during the recruitment period, meet the academic requirements, and attend the mandatory new member orientation and induction events. Please reference the “Prospective Members” page for detailed information.

  • AED provides support through academic resources, mentoring, networking opportunities, volunteer experiences, and professional development events. Our community of like-minded students and professionals can help guide you through the challenges and milestones of your pre-health path.

  • Yes, AED offers numerous leadership opportunities, including executive board positions, officer roles, and event coordinators. Leadership within AED allows you to develop valuable skills and make a significant impact on the organization and your peers.

  • Item descriptionAED offers a variety of service opportunities to fulfill our weekly service requirement of 10 hours. Members can engage in hands-on clinical experiences at Waco Family Medicine and Ascension Providence. Additionally, there are meaningful non-clinical activities available with organizations such as Salvation Army and La Puerta. For more information about all weekly service opportunities, check out the "Service Opportunities" page. In addition to weekly service, AED hosts large service events regularly, providing members with the chance to give back to the Baylor and Waco community on a larger scale. Some of our prominent events include Steppin' Out and Shepherd's Heart Food Pantry. These large service events are held to offer members diverse opportunities to contribute to the community and make a meaningful difference.

  • While AED does not offer direct shadowing hours, we provide valuable resources and support to help members find shadowing opportunities, internships, and research positions. You can check out the resources page for more information shared by fellow AED members about these opportunities. Additionally, we are more than happy to assist in setting members up with healthcare experiences. AED also provides clinical volunteering opportunities through partnerships with Waco Family Medicine and Ascension Providence, giving members the chance to meaningful hands-on clinical experience.

  • The time commitment for AED includes attending regular chapter meetings, participating in service activities, and engaging in various events throughout the semester. Members are required to fulfill a weekly service requirement of 10 hours, which can be achieved through a mix of clinical and non-clinical service opportunities. Additionally, members are encouraged to attend professional development workshops, social events, and large service projects. While the specific time commitment can vary based on individual involvement, AED aims to provide a balance that complements your academic and personal commitments.

  • General meetings are held biweekly on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30pm in D110. Members are required to attend at least 4 out of the 6 meetings each semester to remain active. If you have a time conflict, please inform an executive member in advance. Virtual attendance submissions are available for members with class conflicts or other extreme circumstances. Be sure to reach out early if you need accommodations.

  • Alpha Epsilon Delta stands out from other pre-health organizations at Baylor due to several unique aspects. As the only Pre-Health Honor Society on campus and part of a prestigious national organization (Texas Beta chapter), AED offers unparalleled opportunities for networking, shadowing, speaker sessions, and social events throughout the academic year and breaks. What sets AED apart is our dedicated New Member integration process each semester, led by experienced New Member Educators. This five-week program not only introduces new members to AED but also fosters leadership development and connections within the organization, ensuring a supportive environment for all members on their pre-health journey.

  • Dues for AED are $25 and should be paid by the 3rd general meeting. Late dues are $35.
