Member Spotlight: Meagan McMann

Meagan McMann is a junior Cell and Molecular Biology major on the Pre-PA track. She serves as the chaplain of AED and what she loves most about her role is getting to know the AED community better, because it has only increased her passion and boldness for sharing God’s love with others.

Meagan’s goal to work in the healthcare field comes from her God-given desire to serve others through the knowledge and skills she has. Coming into Baylor, Meagan was a Biochemistry major on the Pre-Medical track. However, in the first semester of her sophomore year, she switched to the Pre-PA track.

She said that one of the biggest reasons for this switch was evaluating her future and realizing that she wanted to maintain a different balance in her life than a physician would. She wishes to be able to significantly prioritize both her future family and her relationship with her patients. With the flexibility of the PA career, she found that it has the perfect amount of versatility, balance, and service to fulfill her vision of the future and her personal values.

For the last two summers, she has worked at T Bar M Camp Travis, a summer camp that has taught her how to better love, serve, and support others. In addition, her passion for loving others of all different backgrounds and life stories has only increased, and she anticipates using all of the important lessons she has learned from serving at the camp in her future career as a PA.

When asked for a word of advice for other AED members, Meagan encouraged everyone to be grounded in the present and find joy in today when she said, “If you are always looking forward or striving for something in the future, you will miss the life going on around you. Do not take for granted the life you have now because you are always working for something in the future. Find a faith, passion, or love you are devoted to outside of school. Know a couple things you value in your life and focus on those; you do not need to do it all. You are loved and do not have to earn it.”

One thing that everyone should be keeping an eye out for is the Bible study that Meagan has planned. It will be great opportunity to get to know other members of the AED community within a smaller setting, and she hopes that we will be able to encourage one another throughout our personal journeys. All are welcome to the Bible study and there are more details to come in the weekly email. Please keep an eye out for this information and don’t miss out on what is bound to be a wonderful experience!
