Event Recap: New Member Auction

The New Member Auction is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated and iconic events of AED every semester, where the New Members’ combined efforts manifest into a spectacular and fun evening in which members wear costumes according to theme and can bid on a variety of items to raise money for our honor society. For the past two semesters, the auction was online, but this fall, members once again returned to the high energy environment of an in-person event.

For the Fall 2021 edition of the NM Auction, the theme was Suit ‘N Tie. Everyone was dressed like super spies in black or in fancy suits and as characters from spy series. One member is particular was dressed as Mr. Evil from Austin Powers.

The auction items contributed by the New Members are always interesting and this semester was no different. There were items like a piñata and many bundles, such as a Halloween mystery box, self care box, and movie box (full of the snacks you need for a perfect movie night).

The MCs for the night were New Members Yesmeena and Caleb. They kept the event engaging and fun with their highly energetic presentation and this was especially so through the bidding wars.

Speaking of bidding wars, the most intense one involved a bundle that consisted of an exit sign from the U Pointe on Speight apartments, a blue wig, and raindrop glasses. Tensions and bids climbed higher until the bidding war finally ended at a whopping $75.

In keeping with the theme of the auction, there was also something interesting hidden within one of the auction items. The “Key to World Domination” was found in an item won by Srikhar, the Vice President of Service, and it gave him a free AED t-shirt credit!

Because of the efforts of the members who organized the event, as well as all the members who participated, the New Member Auction was, once again, a great success. Undoubtedly, the bid winners will enjoy their new possessions, and everyone present had lots of fun and will remember this evening for a long time to come.
