Service

AEDxMSO Mission Trip

AED’s annual medical-mission trip is heading to South Africa for the first time!!

Join AED & MSO from May 21st-31st for an incredible experience with BU Missions and One More Child. There is an upcoming interest meeting on Thursday, October 17th (BSB E227). Come if you are interested about what the trip will entail & to ask any questions you have!

If you attend the trip you get 2 semesters worth of LSEs covered, and you’ll have a chance to get closer with AED members while serving internationally. Plus, AED will fundraise to help cover the cost of your trip.

Please reach out to annie_lodge1@baylor.edu and anne_howard1@baylor.edu with any questions! The priority deadline is October 23rd (get an extra $100 credit for the trip), and the final deadline is November 6th!

Upcoming Large Service Events

AED requires general members to attend 3 Large Service Events each semester! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu).

  • Steppin’ Out is Saturday, November 9th from 8-12pm or 9-1pm! Everyone must complete their registration form at this LINK!

    • Groups that register before Sunday, October 6th at 11:59PM will receive priority, so please fill out the form ASAP! The final registration deadline is October 22nd, and if you do not register you will not be able to attend! Note: you can only register with 1 organization, so please reach out to Lexi with your plans if you are serving with another organization.

  • MCDC Pay-for-credit LSE: We are helping McLennan County Diaper Collective host a drive for National Diaper Need Awareness Week. There is no government assistance for diapers, so MCDC is a newer non-profit in Waco that aims to fill this gap and runs solely on donations. To earn an LSE credit, please reach out to Lexi ASAP to meet-up or drop off a package of diapers (any size; at least 100 diapers). The last day she can take donations is Monday 10/7. The diapers should be HEB/Walmart brand, and not name-brand diapers to save money. Please no pull ups–just regular diapers. Diapers run in sizes from newborn to 7.

    • We will be having an in-person LSE with MCDC on Tuesday, October 8th from 6-8PM to wrap and package all the diapers that we have collected for distribution. If you plan on coming to the wrapping on 10/8, please fill out this FORM by October 7th, Monday at 12PM, so I can give the volunteer coordinator a headcount for pizza. A GroupMe will be made Monday afternoon with information about Tuesday.

  • The City of Waco’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Saturday, October 19th at 9am. This event is hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association, and check in for this event is at 5100 Crosslkae Pkwy. Music and Memory is also attending, and this is a great event to attend if you have a friend or loved one who you would like to honor, or if you would like to support a future without Alzheimer’s disease.

    • If you are interested in attending this event, please fill out the FORM and follow the instructions to sign up to walk with Music & Memory’s team. Reach out to Lexi if you need a ride to this event!

    • Church Under the Bridge Health Fair: The Public Health Department is partnering with Church Under the Bridge to help the underprivileged populations of Waco through the annual Health Fair which will be held on Sunday, October 20th from 7:00-10:30 AM. You can choose from helping present tri-folds on a community health topic, do nail painting, face painting, hand out hygiene goodie bags, and run a foot washing booth. Please sign-up if you can stay the whole time, as rides will be offered if you can ride with me and other organizers.

      • If you cannot make it on the day of but would still like a service credit, please make at least three hygiene bags or help with making a tri-fold. Please contact aatiqah_hussain1@baylor.edu with any questions!

  • Loaves of Love occurs every 2 weeks in Earle Classroom. Loaves of Love is a weekly service opportunity, but AED members can attend ANY date this semester for 1 LSE credit. Note: Loaves of Love can only count for 1 LSE of your required 3, and you MUST bring a donation (6 loaves of Hill Country Extra Thin Bread (blue)- $1/piece) in order to earn an LSE. The next date will be Friday, October 18th from 4:45-5:45PM.
