Important Membership Updates!

From the Spring 2025 semester on, AED will now be requiring all general members to complete two scholarship credits. All other general member requirements will remain the same. With a variety of events and opportunities available, we hope that this new requirement aims will enhance member engagement and support the continued growth and success of the organization. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Executive Board!

Forms and Deadlines:

  • General Membership Form is due THIS WEDNESDAY, 02/19 after the 2nd GM at 11:59pm. It is REQUIRED FOR ALL GENERAL MEMBERS!

  • Enzyme Interest Form: Fill out this form if you are interested in serving as an enzyme this semester! Remember, general members are required to serve as an enzyme at least once before the semester they graduate!

Be sure to review the Master Spreadsheet periodically throughout the semester for your credits. Email mariele_patungan1@baylor.edu if you have any questions!

General Meeting Dates:

  • Our general meetings will be from 7:30-8:30 pm on 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/26, 4/9, and 4/23 in BSB D110.

    • Go ahead and plan on putting those on your calendar so you can meet the GM requirement. Please email Mariele (mariele_patungan1@baylor.edu) if you cannot attend one or all of these GM dates at least two weeks in advance. We will only provide GM exemptions to those with classes or exams.

Scholarly Events

Thank you to everyone who attended the 52nd Annual Pre-Health Symposium, a special thank you to those who hosted all the wonderful representatives. With over 200 students attending and over 35 institutions attending from all over the country, this year’s PHS was a grand success. We hope that you all gained insightful advice from each institution regarding their programs and what they hope to see from an applicant.

Service

Weekly Service Form and Updates

  • Thank you to those who have filled out the Weekly Service Form & reached out to the clinical service chairs! The Master Spreadsheet has been updated with the volunteer sites that you have been assigned to! Please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu) if you think anything is off. 

  • If you have not heard from your Weekly Service Chair, please reach out to Lexi.

  • If you have to attend an orientation for your organization–that will still contribute to your weekly hours. Please let me know if you have any questions at all!

    • Liana has contacted all applicants of Waco Family Medicine. If you are a new member, please make sure to respond to her email regarding your size for an AED polo

    • If you applied to Ascension Providence or are a returning volunteer, please email Hana_Jang1@baylor.edu

    • If you are concerned about a weekly service time commitment, car/carpool situation, or you are already involved in valuable service that you are passionate about, please reach out to Lexi at Lexi_Haviland1@baylor.edu

  • If you are (any GMs or NMs!) looking for an additional weekly service opportunity: The Rural Health Equity Research Collaborative is looking for volunteer math tutors to help 9th graders learn algebra in hopes to raise standardized test scores in Waco. This is a 2 hour a week commitment at the Harmony School of Innovation with times available Monday-Thursday at 10:30 and 2:45PM. If you are interested, please reach out to Lexi_Haviland1@baylor.edu and she can connect you with more information!

Upcoming Large Service Events

AED requires general members to attend 3 Large Service Events each semester! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu).

  • 1 Large Service Event can be “carried in” from another organization per semester, and 1 Large Service Event can be a “pay for credit” opportunity. 

  • Loaves of Love occurs every 2 weeks in Earle Classroom. Loaves of Love is a weekly service opportunity, but AED members can attend ANY date this semester for 1 LSE credit.

    Note: Loaves of Love can only count for 1 LSE of your required 3, and you MUST bring a donation (6 loaves of Hill Country Extra Thin Bread (blue)- $1/piece) in order to earn an LSE.

    The first date for the semester is this Friday February 21st. To receive credit, first fill out this LINK there is a 10-member max for LSE credit), show up at 4:45PM, bring your donations, and fill out the sign-up on the whiteboard.

  • We will have an LSE this Friday (2/21) from 1:30-3:30PM at Caritas of Waco. We will be volunteering in their food pantry as their organization aims to fight poverty and food insecurity in Waco.

    Volunteers will have to fill out this Google Form indicating that they have read the details of the waiver, so I can send our information to the coordinator before Thursday evening. Here is the LINK to sign up! If you are coming, please fill out ASAP.  Lexi will provide rides to anyone who needs it!

  • Save the Date–Steppin’ Out will take place on Saturday, April 5th from 8-12pm or 9-1pm!

    More details to follow, but Steppin’ Out will begin sending out registration emails with a link to sign-up this week.

Dues

  • Semester Dues are $25 and must be paid by GM #3 (3/5)!

    • Dues will be raised to $35 after GM #3

    • Dues can be paid to our Venmo: @BaylorAED or Zelle: aed.txbeta@gmail.com

      • Please do not mark your dues as a service as it charges AED.

  • Contact Ian at ian_stahl1@baylor.edu for any questions or if Venmo does not work for you.

The Valentine’s Day Bake Sale was a huge success! Thank you to everyone that brought treats, tabled, and bought goods at the bake sale!

New Member/Recruitment Information

We are so excited to announce that we have accepted 36 new members for the Spring 2025 semester!

This Tuesday from 6-8PM is Enzyme-Substrate Speed Dating. If you are an enzyme please make sure you have filled out the Enzyme Interest Form, joined the GroupMe, and made a slide on the Canva! Reach out to Aatiqah or Abheet if you have any questions. Remember, general members are required to serve as an enzyme at least once before the semester they graduate!

  • In order to remain an active general member, you must attend a new member social event. Below are the Spring 2025 New Member events:
