Baylor Thaakat | Having a Global Impact

By: Ruth Zachariah

What is Thaakat Foundation?

Parasu describes Thaakat Foundation to be a “nationally recognized non-profit organization that believes in restoring hope and courage in the underprivileged by advancing the minds of those who are capable of lending a helping hand.” She points out the global impact this organization has had, specifically through their three main global project sites which include the Konadu Basic School in Ghana, Kachra Kundi in Pakistan, and Healthcare without Borders in Sierra Leone.

How did you hear about this organization?

Parasu came to hear about Thaakat Foundation from talking to the National President of her sorority. From being a member of a service-based sorority, Parasu was eager to find ways to help serve and support underprivileged communities across the world. Parasu emphasizes the beneficial impact this organization has in setting up a self-sustaining foundation within the communities for independent development as well. She states that “it was noteworthy to find an organization that finds a selfless individual in the community and works with them, in order to avoid a community that solely depends on external assistance.”

What made you want to start a chapter at Baylor?

With regard to starting a chapter at Baylor, Parasu mentions that she couldn’t think of an organization that was quite like Thaakat Foundation currently at Baylor. Parasu details the importance that Thaakat Foundation places on helping develop the communities that are being served, as she highlights that “this [organization] is one that actively works to build infrastructure within the community and pushes for the community to self-sustain.” Parasu also notes that this organization is one that is “extremely welcoming, and works to protect, uplift, and serve the global community.”

What are some goals that you have for Thaakat this semester?

Parasu states that she hopes the chapter here at Baylor can help support Thaakat Foundation’s impact in Pakistan. Parasu mentions that “ Thaakat currently has multiple efforts that are serving within areas affected by the floods in Pakistan,” and she hopes that “Thaakat at Baylor can work to develop funds for these efforts through fundraisers.” Parasu is excited for the upcoming semester and the global impact Baylor students can have through participation in this organization.
