Important Membership Updates!

From the Spring 2025 semester on, AED will now be requiring all general members to complete two scholarship credits. All other general member requirements will remain the same. With a variety of events and opportunities available, we hope that this new requirement aims will enhance member engagement and support the continued growth and success of the organization. General Meeting Dates:

  • Our general meetings will be from 7:30-8:30 pm on 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/26, 4/9, and 4/23 in BSB D110.

    • Go ahead and plan on putting those on your calendar so you can meet the GM requirement. Please email Mariele (mariele_patungan1@baylor.edu) if you cannot attend one or all of these GM dates at least two weeks in advance. We will only provide GM exemptions to those with classes or exams.

BCM Admissions Presentation | March 24th | BSB D110 at 2:30 PM

  • The Admissions Deans’ of Baylor College of Medicine will be doing a presentation so be sure to attend to learn more about BCM’s program and how to increase your chances in the application process. 

  • 1 Scholarship Credit will be awarded to attendees, please send a picture of your attendance to Shynitha, shynitha_pulluri1@baylor.edu

  • The panel will feature current medical students, gap-year students, a physician, as well as current seniors who have been accepted into medical school.

Personal Statement Workshop | March 26th, 5-6pm | BSB C124

  • Come join AED’s Networking Chairs for a Personal Statement Workshop!

  • Whether you have a PS in progress and want feedback, have some ideas but want help formulating a strong narrative, or have no idea where to start, this event is for you!

  • 1 Scholarship Credit will be awarded to attendees

AMCAS/TMDSAS Workshop | April 17 | 5:00 - 6:30 PM 

  • This workshop will be in collaboration with ASDA so both pre-medical and pre-dental students can learn more about the application process. A TMDSAS representative will also be there virtually to walk through the TMDSAS portal, offer tips, and other resources to the students. 

  • 1 Scholarship Credit will be awarded to attendees

  • Thank you to those who have filled out the Weekly Service Form & reached out to the clinical service chairs! The Master Spreadsheet has been updated with the volunteer sites that you have been assigned to! Please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu) if you think anything is off.

Upcoming Large Service Events

AED requires general members to attend 3 Large Service Events each semester! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Lexi (lexi_haviland1@baylor.edu).

  • 1 Large Service Event can be “carried in” from another organization per semester, and 1 Large Service Event can be a “pay for credit” opportunity. 

    • Tagging Event: Come to the thrift store tagging/sorting event on Wednesday, March 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 in BSB E125 to earn 1 Large Service Event (LSE) credit!

    • This event is before the general meeting, and a super fun way to get an LSE with AED members. Newly inducted members can use this as an hour towards their 6 service hours.

    • Additionally, bring your last donations for the Thrift Store to the tagging event and earn up to 4 weekly service hours for donating. Please refer to the finance section of weekly email for more details on donations for weekly service credit to the thrift store.

    • AED’s is having their semester Thrift Store this Thursday, March 27th from 11AM to 4PM. All purchases go towards supporting our upcoming mission trip to South Africa. 

      • Besides purchasing, we also need volunteers to help run the thrift store as it is open to all Baylor students.

      • Sign up for 2 slots (1 hour total) at this LINK to receive an LSE.

      • Additional hours will go towards weekly service hours! If you would rather receive a weekly hour instead of LSE, please reach out.

      • Ian & Danny will send out more information about the thrift store this week.

    • La Puerta needs volunteers for their Spring event this Friday, March 28th.

    • There are various shifts ranging from 3PM-8PM. Volunteers could help with setup, cleanup, or assist on the day of the event depending on what you sign up for. Activities include games and face painting. It is a family friendly event, and volunteers are encouraged to bring a dish to share! 

      • If interested, please sign up at this LINK ASAP, so La Puerta can contact you with more information.

        • Note: non La-Puerta volunteers must complete a short training about their organization. If you sign-up, please email carlos_alvaradorich1@baylor.edu, so he can send you the training! 

    • Bearathon: The Bearathon is this Saturday, March 29th from 6AM-12PM. Signups to volunteer for the Bearathon, the toughest half-marathon in Texas, has closed. Make sure to send a selfie of you volunteering to Lexi to earn credit. 

    • Shepherd’s Heart is hosting March Mayhem, and they need volunteers on Friday, March 28 at 4 PM and Sunday, March 30th at 6PM.

    • The volunteer coordinator is asking for volunteers to help set up a volleyball court for their tournament on Friday and take down the court on Sunday. There is no signup link needed, but please email dgraham@shepherdsheart-pantry.org to confirm your commitment to volunteer.

    • The address is 4601 Bosque Blvd, Waco, TX, 76710. Please reach out to Dianne (above email) or brady_johnson5@baylor.edu with any questions.

    • Loaves of Love occurs every 2 weeks in Earle Classroom. Loaves of Love is a weekly service opportunity, but AED members can attend ANY date this semester for 1 LSE credit.

      • Note: Loaves of Love can only count for 1 LSE of your required 3, and you MUST bring a donation (6 loaves of Hill Country Extra Thin Bread (blue)- $1/piece) in order to earn an LSE.

    • The next date for the semester is Friday, April 4th. To receive credit, first fill out this LINK (there is a 10-member max for LSE credit), show up at 4:45PM, bring your donations, and fill out the sign-up on the whiteboard.

    • Steppin’ Out is Saturday, April 5th from 8-12pm or 9-1pm! Thank you to everyone who registered! Registration is closed, but reach out to Lexi if you want to attend but didn’t get a chance to sign up. There will be more information to follow once Steppin’ Out emails Lexi a list of everyone signed up. 

      • Note: you can only serve with 1 organization, so please reach out to Lexi with your plans if you are serving with another organization.

AED Texas Beta Chapter Scholarship

AED National Scholarship

  • Each chapter is allowed to submit two scholarship applications

  • Applicants must be/have been a national member and active in their chapter.

  • Applicants must be graduating seniors or within 2 years of graduation.

  • Applicants must have been accepted to or matriculated into a medical, dental or other health care related professional school.

Dues

  • Semester Dues are now $35 and must be paid by the end of the semester. 

    • Dues can be paid to our Venmo: @BaylorAED or Zelle: aed.txbeta@gmail.com

      • Please do not mark your dues as a service as it charges AED.

  • Contact Ian at ian_stahl1@baylor.edu for any questions or if Venmo does not work for you.

Andy’s Profit Share | Wednesday, March 26 | 3:00 - 9:00 pm

Come out and enjoy some frozen custard at Andy’s and support AED while you are at it!

AED Thrift Store | Thursday, March 27 | 11:00 am  - 4:00 pm | Fountain Mall

  • Come support the AED mission trip to South Africa and revitalize your wardrobe while you are at it! You can also earn a lot of credits for volunteering, donating, and purchasing items!

  • Purchasing

    • Purchase 3 items to receive 1 social credit

  • Donating:

    • Donate 4 items to receive 1 weekly service hour (up to 4 hours)

      • Shirts, shorts, sweaters, hats, etc.

      • Each pair of lightly worn shoes count for 1 hour each

    • Donations will be accepted from 3/17 to 3/26! You can drop them off in the donation box that set up in the E-wing of the BSB.

    • Last donations can be taken on 3/26 at Tagging LSE

    • Before bagging your items, please take a picture so we are able to tell which items you donated!

  • Volunteering:

As an MA for ENT Southlake, you would have the opportunity to take patient histories, assist with in office procedures, and learn the ins and outs of a surgical practice. No experience is necessary!
